Lunch & Learn: Healing Attachment Wounds - Working with Foster Care and Adopted Youth

Join Integral Care’s Stacy Spencer, LCSW-S - who has spent much of her career dedicated to children and youth in foster care and residential placement - for an informative session on best practice interventions with this population. We will delve into the complex world of attachment and its impact on foster care and adopted youth. Participants will gain a deep understanding of how attachment can impact the nervous systems, brains, and behaviors of children who have been in foster care placement or who have been adopted. We will explore practical strategies for working with foster care and adopted students, and how to be trauma-informed in your approach. This workshop is perfect for social workers, counselors, and school staff seeking to better support foster care and adopted youth in their journey towards healing.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the impact of attachment trauma on foster care and adopted youth, including the effects on brain development and emotional regulation.

2. Learn practical techniques for working with this population, including therapeutic interventions and caregiver strategies.

3. Explore the unique challenges and opportunities for growth in building and maintaining relationships with foster care and adopted youth.
