Who Should Attend:

  • Survivors of suicide loss who have waited at least two years since their loss and are ready to facilitate a support group

  • Mental health professionals interested in starting a support group for suicide loss survivors

  • Current support group facilitators seeking to strengthen their skills, stay up to date with best practices, and address challenges they’ve encountered

About the Training:

The AFSP Suicide Bereavement Facilitator Training equips individuals with the knowledge and tools to create and lead effective support groups for those grieving a suicide loss. Designed for both new and experienced facilitators, this program supports the development of compassionate, safe, and informed group environments.

Trainings are conducted virtually over three days and are limited to 50 participants to allow for meaningful interaction. Each session features expert-led lectures, interactive discussions, and role-playing exercises to provide practical, hands-on experience. Because of the interactive nature of the training, participants are required to keep cameras on and remain fully engaged throughout.

AFSP offers two specialized training tracks:

  • Adult Support Group Facilitation

  • Child and Teen Support Group Facilitation

Both courses are led by professionals with deep expertise in suicide bereavement and support group facilitation.
