Lunch & Learn — Visualizing Mental Health Insights

On Friday, August 29, 2025, the Translational Health Research Center (THRC), in partnership with the Hays County Health Department, hosted "Lunch & Learn: Visualizing Mental Health Insights" at the Hilton Garden Inn in San Marcos. Held from noon to 2 p.m., the free, hands-on session brought together local government leaders, nonprofit professionals, and faculty and administrators from Texas State University.

Over lunch, participants learned how to:

  • Transform mental health data into powerful visuals

  • Create custom dashboards using Tableau

  • Strengthen grant writing, reporting and program planning with data tools

Each participant received a Tableau license valid through Sept. 30, 2025, along with a resource “cookbook” to support continued practice.

“This event exemplified THRC’s mission of achieving innovation through collaboration,” said Cittlaly Escatel, community health training program manager at THRC. “By equipping community partners with practical tools, we’re helping turn data into action that supports a stronger Central Texas.”

Escatel also introduced updates to The Central State website, a regional health resource hub, and primary instructor Maria Tomasso walked participants through available funding opportunities and demonstrated how to integrate data visuals into grant applications.

As part of THRC’s ongoing commitment to advancing health and resilience across Central Texas, the training reinforced the importance of providing accessible, actionable skills for community partners.
